Menowashing? Or Just Women Finally Getting What We Deserve?
Hi Mobsters, hope you’ve had a great week! it’s Leah here from The House of Hormones, bringing you your weekly dose of wellbeing intel.
There’s a new buzzword flying around: “menowashing.” It’s meant to describe brands slapping the word menopause on products just to make a profit. And while yes, some companies are guilty of that, here’s the thing… why shouldn’t women have more products? Why shouldn’t there be whole shelves dedicated to perimenopause, menopause, and beyond?
For too long, women’s health has been hidden, under-researched, and underserved. Now, finally, we’re seeing brands start to catch up. Skincare that addresses hormonal changes. Supplements designed for perimenopause. Clearer labels on products that actually say “for menopause.” That’s progress, not a problem in our opinion.
Of course, there will always be a few products that jump on the “meno” bandwagon without substance. A multivitamin in pink packaging doesn’t suddenly become a menopause miracle. But let’s be real, women aren’t stupid. We know when something doesn’t work, and we won’t keep buying it.
What’s exciting is that the surge in demand means more research, more innovation, and more attention on women’s bodies. That’s something to celebrate.
At The House of Hormones, we launched our Trusted Products section for exactly this reason. We believe women deserve options, but they deserve options that actually deliver. So here’s our promise:
We try every single product ourselves before it goes up.
We don’t just look at marketing claims, we dig into ingredients, evidence, and real-world results.
If it makes the cut, it’s because it works and we trust the brand.
We do the hard work, so you don’t have to!
Instead of shaming brands for showing up in this space, let’s raise the bar together. Let’s ask for better products, clearer labelling (peri, post, menopause, all of it), and more research into what actually supports women through these stages of life.
Because menopause is not a niche. It’s half the population. Perimenopause starts at 35+, thats most of us in this community! And products made with women in mind shouldn’t be the exception, they should be the rule.
So next time you see “menopause” on a label, don’t roll your eyes. Ask: is this helpful? Is it thoughtful? Does it work? If the answer’s yes, amazing, add it to your toolkit. If not, leave it on the shelf. Simple.
The point is, women finally have choice, visibility, and conversations that were once invisible. Brands are forced to do more research and do better!
That’s not menowashing, that’s progress. And we’re here for it.
Love
