From Kitchen Table to Supermarket Shelves: How Nourish Founder Ineke Built a Healthy Snack Brand That’s Fueling the Nation
If you’ve sat at your kitchen table and thought, ‘this is it, this idea, this time, I’m going to do it’, then the chances are you know exactly how Ineke, Founder of Nourish, felt 10 years ago!
Whilst working as a nurse she spotted a glaring gap in the market for healthy, wholefood, free from snacks that could truly fuel her busy days.
As a foodie, driven by the taste of real food and dealing with her own food intolerances Ineke wanted to create free from snacks that tasted great and did you good, containing only 100% natural ingredients and 0% nasties. Using their spare time to grow the idea Ineke, her husband and young daughter ran the business from home to begin with. Starting out selling locally she swiftly gained traction and a real pinch me moment was a listing with Selfridges.
Fast forward almost 10 years, 1 pandemic, 2 more children, 3 kitchen moves, the hiring of a brilliant team of people, and Nourish now finds itself enjoying the success Ineke could only have dreamt of 10 years ago.
Shelves in UK favourites like Ocado, Abel & Cole, Wholefoods and Planet Organic, with major supermarkets on the horizon.
Corporate clients including Google, Lazard, Bloomberg
Penetration into scores of independent health food stores like Sow & Arrow, cooperatives such as Unicorn Grocery along with farm shops and delis up and down the country.
Yet, she’s far from resting, because when you’ve built something real, there’s always a new horizon.
Always sticking to her belief that real food and natural ingredients are the way to make snacking a healthy option, Ineke’s mission crystalised over time. Over the past few years Ineke has been studying Functional Medicine through IFM, where the approach is a whole systems approach, looking at the root cause of disease, nutrition being a key element of this.
The range has grown as she has been on her own nutrition journey and each new addition has its own imperative nutritional aspect with an overarching goal to tackle hormone and gut health. Our new ranges for this year reflect this, The Orange, Berry and Nutty Ones, a range of gut loving high fibre chocolate coconut brownies, and our just released Coconut Matcha Cookie with its fabulously functional ingredients!
Let’s be real for a moment though, on paper that all sounds incredible and almost like it happened without blood, sweat and tears, but the reality is quite different as many of you reading this will understand. It takes late nights/very early mornings, heaps of mum guilt, endless door knocking and a huge learning curve to get to this stage.
Is it worth it? Well while writing this Ineke is signing off on some upcoming, exciting NPD, and on days like these, yes, it’s all worth it. It does take a village though so use that network and support one another!
