Build, Scale & Thrive: Celebrating Two Years of Mums Who Build
On 26 June 2025, more than seventy founders, creators, and supporters came together at the new Moorgate NatWest Accelerator Hub in London for Build, Scale & Thrive, our biggest event yet—and the perfect way to celebrate two years of Mums Who Build.
It was a day filled with learning, connection, honest stories, bold ideas, and the kind of energy that can only come from a room of women determined to do business differently.
Build, Scale & Thrive - celebrating mums who build’s second birthday
More Than a Network—A Movement
From the very first moments, it was clear this wasn’t just another business event. Georgie Harris, co-founder of Mums Who Build, opened the day by sharing the why behind this movement—to close the gender wealth gap and reduce the impact of the motherhood penalty.
Georgie spoke powerfully about her own journey: from working in marketing at Burberry before kids, to navigating the complex world of special educational needs when her son was born with Russell Silver Syndrome and later diagnosed as autistic. She also shared how she met her co-founder Bex, an accountant with over 12 years of experience in commercial finance at brands like Apple, Red Bull, and Moju.
“Mums Who Build was created because we believe no woman should have to choose between motherhood and ambition. We are here to help mums build financial independence and a network that genuinely has your back.”
What started as an idea to help mums build businesses has grown into something much bigger—a community redefining what success looks like and proving every day that motherhood is not a barrier but a superpower.
Stories That Moved Us
After Georgie’s welcome, Melinda Nicci, sports psychologist, mother, and founder of Baby2Body, one of the UK and US’s leading femtech platforms, delivered a keynote that left the room in tears.
Melinda shared her own raw and inspiring journey—raising two small children alone as an immigrant, building a global wellness platform while putting herself through a master’s degree, and overcoming people telling her she was “too old” to start a business or raise investment.
“My business wasn’t built on 20 minutes of inspiration—it was built on 20 years of experience.”
Her story set the tone for a day that combined real vulnerability with practical learning.
Learning, Networking, and Business Opportunities
Throughout the day, founders engaged in sessions designed to build confidence, skills, and connection—everything that makes networking for women so powerful.
The NatWest Pitch Workshop, led by Gabi and Elizabeth from NatWest Business Accelerator, focused on helping founders craft their story and present with impact. One insight stayed with everyone:
“When pitching your business, it’s your job to make people care about your story. If you tell a story people connect to emotionally, they’re likely to remember it—it’s neuroscience.”
The AI Challenge that followed was led by Sunil Rao, an award-winning technology leader whose 17+ years in tech span Google, Microsoft, and co-founding Astronaut Technologies in Southeast Asia. Sunil currently leads Generative AI innovation for large enterprises across EMEA, and his session was invaluable for showing how AI can help female founders build faster and work smarter—critical for busy working mums.
He inspired one attendee to dream big and pitch gravity-powered gondolas gliding over London—proof that no idea is too ambitious.
“Give a mum a problem—and she’ll build a (blue) sky solution.”
A Fireside Chat to Remember
The day closed with a fireside chat between Melinda Nicci and Chloë Luxton, founder of Bramley, the award-winning British bath and body brand.
Born out of the Great British countryside, Bramley is renowned for blending natural plant-based ingredients with essential oils to nurture wellbeing—while championing sustainability through responsible sourcing and refill shopping.
Chloë shared her journey of building a purpose-led business with integrity, demonstrating that it’s possible to grow without compromising on values.
A Shared Space of Belonging
More than anything, what attendees spoke about was the feeling: the warmth, the solidarity, and the sense that every mum building a business was surrounded by a network ready to cheer her on.
One guest said:
“It was just so energising to be surrounded by so many strong women doing incredible, varied things. We shared stories, support, tips—and most crucially, energy. I came out absolutely buzzing.”
And for some, it sparked a new chapter:
“Being around start-ups has always lit a spark in me. This community has reignited something, and honestly, I can’t turn it off.”
